Nestled in the picturesque smog free foothills of the Liebre Mountains
just minutes north of Valencia and the San Fernando Valley, on the opposite side of the Angeles National Forest, Castle
Ranch retains a calmer, quieter character close to everything, yet removed from the city's hustle and bustle.
This hidden private villa sits on 512 acres and includes a
3000 ft. airfield. Built in the 1920s and modeled after an Irish Manor, The Castle (a.k.a.: Shea's Lodge) and
its outbuildings appear on many greater Los Angeles area, and USGS maps. The Ranch has been featured in a number
of journals and TV/Movie productions.

Located in Los Angeles county, the site has commanding views of the Valley floor, the California Poppy Reserve, city lights,
and the majestic Tehachappi Mountains. The California Aqueduct runs along the southern boundary of the property.
The property is 1.5 miles north of Lake Elizabeth, and just 25 minutes North East of Valencia and Santa Clarita.
The property is also 15 miles west of the 14 FWY (Palmdale
Boulevard off-ramp) in Palmdale, and 8 miles from Leona Valley and Quartz Hill .
John Shea, a Los Angeles real estate developer, originally purchased 1,300 acres and built the 7,000 sq. ft.
Castle in 1924 for his wife. The Castle was an architectural marvel of its time, and some say that it was built
for a cost of $500,000. There are 8 Bedrooms, 7 Bathrooms, 7 fireplaces, 2 kitchens, and a number of unique common rooms.
The medieval castle motif is replicated in the 3,000 sq. ft. stable. On the fenced and gated property, leading up to
the Castle is a lovely stone bridge that spans a lake (presently silted). The 20 ft. high stone dam was engineered
specifically to control the lake. The dirt runway was used in the 1940s and 1970s to fly in celebrities for extensive
private Hollywood parties.
Next to the Castle, the historic Indian springs and campgrounds, which includes several petroglyphs (rock paintings),
are known California aboriginal settlement.
